Turning novices into bareboat qualified skippers is our specialty! And our focus is teaching a lifetime skill enabling you to enjoy incredible sailing vacations in command of your own yacht. We’ve trained more charter-qualified skippers than any other school in the Pacific Northwest. With over 25 years of experience, our emphasis has always been on practical, hands-on learning. While you’re learning, you’ll be exploring the spectacular San Juan Islands aboard one of our modern 31’-45’ sailing yachts. Welcome aboard!

Surrounded by the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, you’ll enjoy anchoring in idyllic coves, exploring the artist shops of quaint island towns, and watching bald eagles soar overhead while porpoises play in your wake.

You may even practice “heaving to” as you enjoy watching a pod of orcas breach nearby! These are all part of the cruisers’ paradise you’ll experience when you learn to sail at San Juan Sailing School

Our location on Bellingham Bay boasts consistent winds and moderate temperatures. The pristine, forested San Juan Islands are just a 6 mile “bay sail away!”

Our experienced instructors are not only great sailors, but they know how to teach. On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being best, our instructors’ overall rating by students is 4.9! They’ll give you plenty of helm time no matter which course you take.

Achieve your bareboat charter certification over three weekends or during our popular week-long Learn-n-Cruise. We also offer catamaran and advanced courses, as well as all women options. Once you have completed your certification, we have special flotilla opportunities – a great way to begin your charter experience by building confidence while cruising with other boats. As a bareboat graduate, you’ll receive $100 off any future advanced training course or week-long charter. We also have the largest fleet of cruising sailboats for charter on either coast of the U.S.
